• Koeman confirms Mazraoui talks: “A serious option for Netherlands”

(Football-Oranje.com) Netherlands national team boss Ronald Koeman has confirmed he held talks with Ajax right-back Noussair Mazraoui about choosing Oranje over Morocco.

The talented 20-year-old was born in the Netherlands but has represented Morocco at youth level and was on their standby list for the World Cup.

Speaking to Studio Voetbal on Sunday, Koeman confirmed he held talks with Mazraoui and thinks he is a serious option for the right-back slot in the Dutch national team.

He said, “I spoke to him last Thursday afternoon.

“Nico-Jan Hoogma, Mazraoui, his agent and I had a good talk, the four of us. We have indicated what we want and how we see it for us with him. That in the future he will be a serious option for the right back position.

“One of these days he has to make a choice, because he is probably being called for Morocco. But I do not think a player comes to a conversation and listens to our story if he has already made the choice for Morocco.

“I have indicated that we have started a new period. That we are giving talent a chance. Based on the conversation and how we split up, we have a little more hope than before. “
