• NT: KNVB want Mazraoui to pick Netherlands

(Football-Oranje) According to De Telegraaf, the KNVB are trying to convince Ajax youngster Noussair Mazraoui to turn down Morocco and represent the Netherlands.

The versatile midfielder, who has been turned into a right-back, has made a big impression since breaking into the Ajax first-team last season.

Morocco named the 20-year-old on their standby list for the World Cup but he is yet to make his debut for the African nation and can still change to Oranje. De Telegraaf is reporting that Netherlands boss Ronald Koeman has had a positive talk with Mazraoui with his agent confirming to the newspaper that the youngster is thinking about his decision.

Mustafa Nakhli Said, “It has been a very good conversation, and both Koeman and Hoogma have taken a very professional approach. Koeman had a good story, he has a plan in mind with him and it is clear that he would like Noussair to play for the Dutch national team.

“But Hoogma and Koeman have also left Noussair to make his choice and have not pushed and released in his choice. Noussair has to think about it, whether he has already made his choice, he has never come into this situation before, the Moroccan A-team did not ask him before and he was not invited to the Dutch national team before.”

Mazraoui has represented Morocco at U19, U20 and U21 level but he was born in Leiderdorp.
