• NT: Walid Azaro called up to Morocco national team

Morocco French coach Herve Renard decided to include Al Ahly striker Walid Azaro in the national team’s preliminary squad for Morocco’s training camp in March.

Walid Azaro, who played four matches before with his national team, shined with the Red Devils netting 17 goals in the Egyptian Premier League which helped him equalize John Utaka and Flavio’s record of most goals scored by a foreign player in the league in one season. He also became the first player in Egyptian Premier League history to score 17 goals in his debut season.

Thanks to his amazing performances, the young striker secured his spot in El-Badry’s starting line up and will be joining his national team’s upcoming training camp. In 35 matches he played with Al Ahly, Azaro scored 24 goals and made 6 assists announcing himself as the team’s top scorer.

“Azaro will join the Moroccan national team in their next training camp,” Al Ahly football director Sayed Abdel-Hafiz told Sada El Balad TV channel. “The Egyptian national team also asked for the passports of eight players from Al Ahly.”

Abdel-Hafiz confirmed that these players are Mohamed El-Shennawy, Abdallah El-Said, Ayman Ashraf, Ahmed Fathi, Saad Samir and Hossam Ashour, while Salah Mohsen will be joining the Olympic national team.

Morocco is preparing for two friendlies against Serbia and Uzbekistan as part of their World Cup preparations. The Lions of the Atlas were drawn in Group B alongside former World Cup champions Spain, Euro 2016 winners Portugal and Iran.
