• Transfers: Al-Ahly accept Morocco striker Walid Azaro sale to China for €10 million

(Goal.com) The Moroccan forward became the first foreigner to top-score in the Egyptian Premier League last season, when he netted 18 goals for Al-Ahly

Egyptian giants Al-Ahly have approved the transfer of Moroccan striker Walid Azaro to Chinese Super League side Hebei China Fortune, pending agreement on the transfer fee.

Azaro scored 18 league goals last season to claim the league’s Golden Boot but was agonisingly dropped from Herve Renard’s final World Cup squad.

After joining Al-Ahly from Moroccan side Difaa El Jadida on a four-year deal in the 2017 summer, Azaro saw his stock rise in his debut Egyptian Premier League season, inviting a big Chinese move.

Al-Ahly have placed a €10 million price tag on him, having rebuffed Hebei Fortune’s initial €8 million bid and an improved €9.5 million one.

“Coach Patrice Carteron and his technical staff agreed to let Azaro join the Chinese club … but the football committee said he would not be sold unless the offer reached 10 million euros. Accordingly, Ahly have sent a letter to the Chinese side to inform them of the price tag,” Al-Ahly said in a statement.

If the deal sails through, Azaro would become the most expensive Al-Ahly transfer, eclipsing Gabonese striker Malick Evouna’s $8 million 2016 move to another Chinese club, Tianjin Teda from the Cairo giants.

Azaro is currently in pre-season camp with Al-Ahly in Croatia. By leaving the Egyptian club, Azaro would send the Egyptian giants on a desperate hunt for his replacement following the shortage of potent strikers in the Egyptian Premier League.
