• Benatia: Juve will be top

    By Football Italia staff

Medhi Benatia says he is confident that Juventus “will be top of Serie A when the big games come up.”

Benatia scored Juve’s winner in their 1-0 victory over Roma before Christmas to stay within a point of leaders Napoli, and the defender warned the Bianconeri would do everything possible to lift their seventh Scudetto in succession.

“Qualifying for the World Cup was a dream and we managed to do it 20 years later,” the defender told JTV.

“As [Morocco] captain, I felt responsibility and it’s even more beautiful like this. Scudetto? We need to stay on this path.

“If no goals are conceded, we have forwards who can score at any moment. Napoli will be there until the end and I’ve also seen Roma in a good way.

“They have something more than Inter, but they’re still a solid team. In March-April, when the big games come up, I’m certain and convinced that Juventus will be top.

“I didn’t play much last season, but now the Coach he is giving me plenty of game time and I hope to repay his faith by always doing better.

“You have to work hard here, and if you want to play on Sunday, you have to train well.

“The Coach doesn’t just look at names but follows through with his ideas, so if he needs to make a change, he does so without thinking twice.

“We all know we have to give 100 percent. Therefore in training, there’s always great intensity.”

  • Moroccans abroad: Taarabt ‘reborn’ at Genoa

    By Football Italia staff

Adel Taarabt claims “I feel reborn” at Genoa as “I’ve worked hard like never before” to attain “an athlete’s body”.

Taarabt has played a key role in Genoa’s recent resurgence under the returning Davide Ballardini, and the former Queens Park Rangers and Milan winger believes he has finally found stability in his career.

“I feel reborn, I’ve found my football,” the 28-year-old told Premium Sport.

“I know I’m important for the team, and that makes me very happy. Football has changed, and if you don’t have an athlete’s body, you’ll struggle: technique isn’t enough.

“Because of that, I worked hard like never before, and I found my love for football. Ballardini? He has a different style to Juric.

“We wait for our opponents a bit more and we try to do damage on the counterattack.

“We’ve been picking up points by playing like this, and that’s important.”

  • Transfers: Arsenal offer described as a ‘monster’ one, big bucks are ‘ready’ for January signing

    By Sport Witness Team

Sky Italia have kicked up something of a fuss with a claim Arsenal want to sign Mehdi Benatia from Juventus.

Benatia has repeatedly been linked with a move to the Premier League during his career, and it’s certainly not the first time Arsenal have been thrown into the mix.

Arsenal have a €40m offer for Benatia, according to the Sky Italia claims, and it’s added that Juventus have flatly refused the approach. Not only that, the Turin club aren’t interested in selling at all, they don’t want to negotiate a deal.

That’s led to various other claims in Italy, where it’s clearly felt Arsenal’s €40m is a good amount.

Calciomercato call it a ‘monster’ offer and say the club have changed their attention from Daniele Rugani to his Juventus teammate.

ITA Sport Press say Arsenal are ‘ready’ to make the signing with the big offer, ahead of the January transfer window.

TMW call Arsenal’s €40m an ‘important offer’, but rule out a move, saying Benatia is simply not for sale.

  • NT: BRAHIM DIAZ REJECTS MOROCCO'S WORLD CUP OFFER

(Goal.com) Herve Renard has made an attempt to bring the Malaga-born forward on board for next summer's tournament, where he would be able to play against Spain

Morocco’s attempts to persuade Manchester City youngster Brahim Diaz to represent the country at next summer’s World Cup are doomed to failure, Goal can reveal.

Morocco boss Herve Renard has held talks with the 18-year-old's representatives in recent weeks in a bid to convince the youngster he should turn his back on Spain and play for the country of his grandmother.

Renard has offered assurances that the youngster, who made his full City debut on Tuesday, would be part of his World Cup squad.

  • NT: Morocco want Brahim Diaz

Morocco coach Herve Renard is hoping to persuade Manchester City striker Brahim Diaz to play for the Atlas Lions for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The Malaga-born player has already featured for the Spain’s under-21 side but could switch allegiance under Fifa rules because he has not played for the senior side yet.

“We know Diaz has played for the Spain youth side but we are hoping that we can make him change his mind,” a source close to the coach told soka25east.

Fifa rules state that a footballer capped at junior level can represent another country at senior level as long as he possesses dual nationality.

“Maybe he took that decision (to play for Spain) at a very tough moment and at a young age,” the source at Moroccan Federation added.

“He’s a great midfielder who has proved that he can score goals.”

Born in Spain to a Moroccan father and a Spanish mother, Diaz, 18, started his football career with Malaga CF from 2010 to 2014 before he moved to Manchester City for an initial GBP 200,000 deal. He then made his first debut for the city in September 2016 as a substitute against Swansea City.

Diaz made his Champions League debut for Manchester City against Feyenoord last month, playing 28 minutes.

Moroccan officials have paid several visits to the player’s family, following an intensive naturalization process that began in 2014 and meant to ‘bring back talents belonging to the soil’ to help rebuild the national team.
